The Jennifer Lawrence-led film took in an estimated $18.6 million in the U.S. and Canada, bringing its domestic total to $227 million, according to Rentrak estimates Sunday. The anti-Santa Claus thriller from Universal, the only film to debut in the top 10 this week, brought in $16 million.
  • George Lucas, 4 others receive Kennedy Center Honors. Feel the Force: R2-D2 helps honor Lucas at Kennedy Center. WASHINGTON (AP) — The technology that George Lucas brought to moviemaking came back to haunt him at the Kennedy Center Honors. As the tribute to Lucas began at Sunday night’s gala honoring him and four others for contributing to American culture through the arts, the crowd was asked to welcome Carrie Fisher. But the star of the original “Star Wars” trilogy and the upcoming “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” didn’t appear in person. Instead, one of Lucas’ beloved creations, the feisty droid R2-D2, rolled onstage and projected her image.
  • Actor Morgan Freeman in plane scare. Morgan Freeman: “We landed safely without a scratch… I cannot say the same about my plane” A private plane carrying Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman was forced to make an emergency landing, but the star and his pilot were unhurt. The plane blew a tyre on take-off from Clarksdale, Mississippi, on Saturday. The SJ30 jet made a forced landing in Tunica, about 40 miles (65km) away, where it went off the runway. In a statement, the Shawshank Redemption star said: “Sometimes things don’t go as planned and a tyre blew on take-off, which caused other problems.”

7am – E         For women’s emotional health, living together is as good as marriage. Studies have shown that marriage significantly increases lifetime happiness. But new research indicates that even people who opt to live together rather than make their union more official can see such benefits. A recent study by researchers from Ohio State University, published in the Journal of Family Psychology found that, for women, moving in with a romantic partner for the first time creates a similar decline in emotional distress to getting married for the first time. Men, on the other hand, only have a significant increase in emotional health when they marry for the first time. And both genders become even happier if they’re living together and then take the step of getting married. When it comes to second relationships after a first significant one ended, both men and women have similar boosts in emotional health when they move in together or get married. Men, on the other hand, only have a significant increase in emotional health when they marry for the first time. And both genders become even happier if they’re living together and then take the step of getting married.
