Dickerson, Md. — (WMAL) The Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Department remains on the scene of a fire at a local trash incinerator plant following the outbreak of a fire last week.

Firefighters responded to a call regarding a fire at a resource recovery facility on December 8th where they were met with an 85-foot trash pile aflame. The fire department was able to quickly contain the spreading fire.

Operations at the facility, like some nonresidential waste deliveries, have been hindered due to the fire. Montgomery County Fire and Rescue has been working with facility management and the Environmental Protection Agency since the outburst of the fire, and continues to cycle in fire crews. So far, over a hundred firefighters have been positioned at the plant.

Pete Piringer, spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service, says that “area residents can expect to see smoke for the next couple of days.” While the fire is contained, Piringer says that it would be unreasonable for the fire to go out at this time.
