FAIRFAX COUNTY, Md. — (WMAL) Fairfax County Police Chief Edwin Roessler Jr. is back on patrol after being rear-ended by a drunk driver Monday night.

Colonel Roessler was stopped at a red light on Lee Highway in an unmarked police vehicle when a drunk driver in a Nissan SUV failed to stop and struck the right rear end of his car. The driver of the SUV, 40-year-old Christie Edgar of Centreville, was taken to a detention holding center and charged with driving while intoxicated.

Police Chief Roessler was taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, and was released after 11 p.m. According to Don Gotthardt, a spokesman for the Fairfax County Police Department, Roessler is “a bit sore, but he’s back at work so he’s doing okay.”
