WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Police may have finally caught the people responsible for half a dozen early morning armed robberies at CVS stores in Montgomery County over the last few weeks.

Four men were taken into custody around 4:15 Thursday morning minutes after an armed man wearing all black and a mask attempted to rob the CVS on 12359 Georgia Avenue in Wheaton.

Robbery detectives from other jurisdictions have been talking to each other about the recent robberies and comparing notes.

“On it’s face, it appears to be very similar, but, of course, detectives are still talking with these four people, and until we talk with them and look at other evidence, we won’t be able to confirm that,” said Captain Paul Starks.

Just like in the other robberies, a man walked into a 24-hour CVS wearing all black, pointed a gun at the cashier and demanded money. Jan. 26 an armed robber was caught on surveillance video holding up clerks at CVS Pharmacy’s on Arlington Road and Wisconsin Avenue in downtown Bethesda and a Rite Aid on East West Highway in Silver Spring.

The attempted robbery Thursday happened at a CVS across the street from the 4th District Station. Police were able to respond in minutes.

“I can’t speak to the intelligence of the people involved. We’re just thankful that this robbery is closed, and nobody was hurt,” Starks said.

The names and ages of the men haven’t been released.
