Fatal Stabbing Reported on UMD Campus

COLLEGE PARK – (WMAL) University of Maryland Police have a man in custody following what it calls an assault with a knife that left one person dead early Saturday.

The assault was reported just after 3:00 a.m. on Regents Drive near Montgomery Hall. When they arrived at the scene, police found the male victim on the sidewalk with serious injuries. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead, police said.

Based on witness reports, the suspect was stopped on a nearby sidewalk by Prince George’s County Police and was taken into custody by UMD Police. They say charges are pending. Police have not yet released the names or ages of the suspect and victim.

UMD Police is also asking anyone with more information on the incident to get in touch with them.

Students are celebrating Commencement activities this weekend, with the campus-wide ceremony set for Sunday afternoon at the Xfinity Center.
