WASHINGTON – The Redskins need to move fast if they want to build their new stadium in Loudoun County according to Board of Supervisors member Ron Meyer.

One spot in Loudoun County being considered for the new Redskins stadium is at the future Silver Line Metro station at Loudoun Gateway.

“The one prime site is up for sale right now, and if that land is bought, it’s gonna be bought to be developed, not bought to be sold to the Redskins,” Meyer told WMAL’s Mornings on the Mall Friday.

That site is ideal, according to Meyer, because it’s right at the future Metro station, and there are no residential communities around there, so traffic isn’t heavy.

Redskins President Bruce Allen said earlier this week sites in D.C., Maryland and Virginia are still being considered but didn’t give any indication if the team favored a specific site.

If the Redskins do choose Loudoun Gateway, it will have to be mixed development that includes other businesses beside a stadium Meyer said.

“Eight days a year of use is not good enough, so it’s gonna have to be a bigger plan, and we’re willing to look at that,” Meyer added.

Allen said talks about the new stadium are going well. Meyer says he hasn’t spoken with him.

The Redskins lease at Fed Ex field isn’t up until 2027. Allen said the process of finding a new stadium will start sooner than anyone thinks but didn’t give a timeline.
