LISTEN: SEBASTIAN GORKA: Trump Administration is Keeping an Eye on Relationships in the Middle East

Listen as Larry spoke with Sebastian Gorka, President Trump’s Deputy Assistant, regarding terror attacks, Arab states breaking ties with Qatar and more.

During the interview, O’Connor asked Dr. Gorka about Arab states ending their relationship with Qatar:

O’Connor: And so what is the status of our relationship with that country at this time? And where are we sort of falling in line there with regard to the other nations  … I mean we’re looking at the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia and Egypt. These are nations that, I think, the administration considers partners in the war on terror in the Middle East .

Dr. Gorka: Well absolutely we have our [inaudible] headquarters there, we have an airbase. Qatar,  on the obvious metrics, has been a good partner in the region. And nevertheless, we are a new administration. I always like to remind people, this is week 19, not month 19. An as such, we are in the process of reviewing everything. Whether it’s to do with immigration standards, whether it’s to do with the JCPOA Iran deal or individual bilateral relations. So right now, we are looking with a very steely eye at all of these relationships. And we will deal with any problems behind closed doors or openly as is, you know, relevant.

Dr. Gorka also discussed how Americans can combat homegrown terrorism:

Dr. Gorka: The question is the following, what are we, as America, as the UK, as any nation that is under threat, what are we going to do with individuals who whether that are born in our country, whether they bear our citizenship or not, go to the Middle East for a week or two, to places like Syria or Iraq. No, you don’t go there to improve your suntan, right? You don’t go to a war zone where the Islamic State has declared the new caliphate. So when these individuals come back home, do we just say, welcome back home? Or do we say, what are you doing? What have you been doing? Are we going to surveil these individuals? Do we have the [inaudible] resources to do so? Or are we just going to say, ‘Welp, you’ve got a British passport, you’ve got an American passport, so you’re free to go’?
