UPDATE 1:50pm: Police confirm the person has been taken into custody with no injuries, and the shelter-in-place has been lifted.

SILVER SPRING – (WMAL) Two schools are sheltering in place in Silver Spring due to reports of an armed person nearby, MCPS spokesman Derek Turner told WMAL. Northwood High School and Forest Knolls Ementary School have locked exterior doors, but instruction is continuing as normal, Turner said.

Montgomery County Police Officer Rick Goodale told WMAL police have responded to a house on Caddington Avenue, which bisects the two schools, for a report of a person barricaded inside a house with a weapon. The person appeared to be alone in the house, Goodale said. Caddington Avenue is closed in the area.
