WASHINGTON (WMAL) — Governor Larry Hogan and Lt. Governor Boyd Rutherford have announced several pieces of legislation and a number of executive actions today to fight the opioid epidemic in Maryland.

This comes during National Drug and Alcohol Facts week according to Hogan’s Facebook page.

One of the initiatives announced today was a directive to Attorney General Brian Frosh to file a lawsuit against opioid manufacturers and distributors. According to a statement, he is to file the suit “on the grounds that they have misled the public and helped to create the addiction crisis gripping Maryland and the nation.”

Another of the initiatives announced today included an act that would allow data sharing between emergency medical services and law enforcement. Governor Hogan had already declared a state of emergency for the opioid epidemic.
