New White House $1.5 trillion infrastructure plan would fast-track projects, ’empower’ states (Washington Times)

White House officials unveiled President Trump’s long-awaited infrastructure plan on Monday as the administration prepares to lay out its priorities for a 2019 budget.

Trump’s plan, according to administration officials, would seek to facilitate more than $1.5 trillion in investments for projects such as road and bridge construction, waterway improvements and rural development by spending $200 billion in taxpayer money to jump-start the work.
“To help build a better future for all Americans, I ask the Congress to act soon on an infrastructure bill that will: stimulate at least $1.5 trillion in new investment over the next 10 years, shorten the process for approving projects to two years or less, address unmet rural infrastructure needs, empower state and local authorities, and train the American workforce of the future,” the White House noted in the 55-page legislative framework released on Monday. Baltimore is at more than 10 days without a homicide — the longest streak since 2015 (Baltimore Sun)

Baltimore is at more than 10 days and counting without a homicide.

“It’s really exciting,” she said. “Baltimore deserves this boost of love.” [Read More]

No pushover: Meghan McCain brings conservative voice to “The View,” and ratings rise (Washington Times)

“The View” — ABC’s daytime talk show geared toward women — is enjoying a resurgence in its ratings, thanks in part to a new executive producer focusing on politics in the Trump era and to the lone conservative voice among its bevy of liberal co-hosts.

Meghan McCain, daughter of Sen. John McCain of Arizona, stands out from her TV colleagues as the panel’s only member who is not a comedian or journalist. Since her October arrival, “The View” has notched its best ratings in three seasons.

More important, some of her singular show moments caught fire on social media. Her tough Jan. 10 questioning of Michael Wolff, author of the inside the White House tell-all “Fire and Fury,” delighted conservatives in particular. [Read More]

There was a long line for selfies with Hillary Clinton last week at a Georgetown soiree for Lanny Davis, a Clinton loyalist whose latest book blames former FBI director James B. Comey for her 2016 presidential defeat.

Clinton devotees — waiting patiently within earshot — speculated about [Read More]
