Pompeo: Talks with North Korea moving along ‘rapidly’ ahead of Trump-Kim summit (Washington Examiner)

Mid-level talks between U.S. and North Korean officials have progressed “rapidly” ahead of President Trump’s summit with Kim Jong Un, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo told reporters on Monday as those discussions were still taking place.

“Our ambassador to the Philippines Sung Kim met today with [North Korean] Vice Foreign Minister Choe Son Hui,” Pompeo told reporters at a press conference Monday evening.

“They are moving quite rapidly and we anticipate they will come to their logical conclusion even more quickly than we anticipated,” he said. [Read More]

Ali Watkins’ past tweets come back to haunt NYT reporter amid leak case (Fox News)

New York Times reporter Ali Watkins’ past tweets are raising eyebrows after revelations she had a three-year romantic relationship with a Senate Intelligence Committee aide now accused by federal prosecutors of leaking sensitive information to journalists, including herself.

On Thursday, the New York Times reported that federal investigators had seized years’ worth of Watkins’ email and phone records as part of a leak probe into James Wolfe, the former security director for the Senate Intelligence Committee indicted for giving false statements to FBI agents. Wolfe appeared for a federal court hearing in Baltimore on Friday, where he relinquished his passport and was prohibited from traveling outside of the District of Columbia and Maryland.  [Read More]

Supreme Court gives green light to Ohio’s voting roll purge (Fox News)

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that Ohio is allowed to purge eligible voters from the state’s registration records if they have not cast ballots in a while.

In a 5-4 ruling issued by Justice Samuel Alito, the high court ruled that Ohio’s law to trigger the removal of inactive voters from the state’s registry can be enforced.

State officials argued that the process used by Ohio for more than 20 years is constitutional and legal, and meant to ensure election security.

Civil liberties groups challenged the state’s program for removing thousands of people from voter rolls based on their failure to vote in recent elections, claiming it violated the National Voter Registration Act. [Read More]

‘Sitting Bull in a china shop’: G-7 photo is latest attempt to embarrass Trump, latest failure (Washington Times)

Call it “Sitting Bull in a china shop.”

A stunning picture. Live. Real. Raw. Tense. Wit’s end fury.

At the focal point in the picture: Total calm.

Inside Obama’s secret meetings with 2020 contenders (Politico)

Barack Obama has in recent months met with at least nine prospective 2020 Democratic presidential candidates, including Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Joe Biden and Deval Patrick, pulling them in for one-on-one sessions at his Washington office.

All the meetings were arranged quietly, without even some close advisers to the people involved being told of the conversations, in part because of how much Obama bristles at his private meetings becoming public knowledge. All have been confirmed to POLITICO by multiple people who have been briefed on the secretive sit-downs. [Read More]

Robert De Niro Hurls F-Bombs At Donald Trump In Tony Awards Outburst; CBS Calls It “Unexpected – Update (Deadline)

Robert De Niro, who appeared at the Tony Awards to introduce Bruce Springsteen’s performance of a contemplative, piano-accompanied version of “My Hometown,” burst out with two bluntly profane blasts aimed at President Donald Trump.

“I’m just going to say one thing,” De Niro said, wearing a scowl worthy of Jimmy Conway in GoodFellas: “F-ck Trump!” When the astonished audience broke out into a mix of laughter and gasps, he paused for a few seconds and then followed with, “It’s no longer ‘down with Trump.’ It’s ‘f-ck Trump!’” He then pumped both fists, Jake LaMotta-style. Many people in the crowd at Radio City Music Hall, having been thrown a piece of red meat toward the end of the three-hour show, jumped to their feet. [Read More]
