WATCH: Montgomery County Police Investigating Deadly Officer-Involved Shooting

SILVER SPRING, Md. (AP/WMAL) – Authorities say a Maryland police officer fatally shot a man after the two had a brief physical confrontation.

It happened around 2pm Monday at 9233 Three Oaks Dr in Silver Spring. Montgomery Police Chief J. Thomas Manger says the officer, a two year veteran of the force was finishing up another call when he was approached by the victim, described as a black man. His name is being withheld until family members are notified.

“The officer attempted to speak with the man, and the man became combative and a physical altercation occurred. The man was shot by the officer multiple times,” Manger said.

That officer, whose name has not been released, was wearing a body camera at the time. The footage is being reviewed.

Chief Manger says there’s no indication the man had a weapon at the time.

The investigation will be submitted to the Howard County State’s Attorney’s Office, per protocol.
