Supreme Court side-steps definitive ruling in Maryland congressional redistricting case (Baltimore Sun)

The Supreme Court is resolving partisan redistricting cases from Wisconsin and Maryland without ruling on the broader issue of whether electoral maps can give an unfair advantage to a political party.

The justices unanimously ruled against Wisconsin Democrats who challenged legislative districts that gave Republicans a huge edge in the state legislature. In a separate unsigned opinion, they also did not side with Maryland Republicans who objected to a single congressional district. [Read More]

Gun rights advocates sue Maryland over bump stock ban (Fox 5 DC)

A gun rights group has filed a federal lawsuit challenging Maryland’s recently enacted ban on devices that increase the rate of fire of semi-automatic firearms.

The complaint filed Monday by a group called Maryland Shall Issue says the ban passed by the legislature and signed by Gov. Larry Hogan in April violates both the federal and state constitutions.

The ban prohibits the manufacture, possession, sale or transfer of any “rapid fire trigger activator” such as a bump stock. It is scheduled to take effect Oct. 1. [Read More]

Trump supporter disrupts De Niro’s musical with ‘Keep America Great’ flag (NY Post)
