Trump signs order that he says will keep migrant families together (CNBC)

President Donald Trump signed an executive order Wednesday that he says will keep migrant families together during detention on the U.S.-Mexico border.

The president backed down from his administration’s policy of splitting migrant families, which for days the White House insisted could only end through congressional action. Facing a nationwide uproar and bipartisan calls to at least temporarily end the practice, the president said he “didn’t like the sight or feeling of families being separated.”

Trump said he will not end the administration’s “zero tolerance” policy of criminally prosecuting every adult who crosses U.S. borders illegally, including those seeking asylum. The White House also will keep pressure on Congress to pass legislation that meets Trump’s goals of halting the separation practice, funding his proposed border wall and limiting legal immigration. Anti-Trump FBI Agent Strzok joined Mueller probe to ‘fix’ ‘unfinished business’ from 2016 election (Washington Times)

Peter Strzok believed joining the Special Counsel’s investigation into President Donald Trump’s campaign would be a way of resolving “unfinished business” from his handling of the Hillary Clinton email investigation during the 2016 presidential election.

This looks, really bad, and Strzok’s explanation of this text doesn’t pass the smell test.

Of the myriad of damning and incriminating text messages uncovered and explained in the Justice Department’s Inspector General’s report last week, FBI Agent Strzok’s exchange with his alleged paramour Lisa Page the day after Robert Mueller was appointed as chief inquisitor of the Trump campaign may be the most damning for the agent and for the Mueller investigation, itself.

Here’s how the email exchange is described in IG Horowitz’ report: [Read More]

Rep. Peter King Compares Mueller Investigators to ‘Twelve Klansmen’ Trying Innocent Black Man

Rep. Peter King (R-NY) compared the FBI agents who worked on the investigation into the Trump campaign’s ties to Russia to members of the Ku Klux Klan sitting on a jury for the trial of an innocent black man.

Appearing on Fox News, the New York Republican emphasized Inspector General Michael Horowitz‘s conclusions about bias at the FBI, but dismissed his determination that bias did not taint the results of the Clinton and Trump probes.

“I think the fact he was able to repeat just how many abuses there were, how much bias there was,” King said. “Now whether or not he concludes that the overall findings were biased: When you have almost everyone involved in the process being biased, to me it would be like if you were twelve Klansmen on a jury and a African-American was convicted, and the evidence wasn’t there.” [Read More]

Trump signs executive order stopping family separation (The Washington Times)

President Trump signed an order Wednesday ending the separation of families at the border, moving to end a crisis that engulfed his administration and threatened to derail his hopes of progress on broader immigration reforms.

Mr. Trump insisted the changes don’t end his zero tolerance policy, and illegal immigrants who jump the border will still be charged with crimes. Indeed, with the president’s signature the zero tolerance policy was elevated to the level of an executive order.

But those arrests jumping the border with children will be held together in immigration detention facilities, rather than separated as the parents head to criminal justice system jails. [Read More]
