WASHINGTON (WMAL) – The Georgetown home that former Massachusetts Senator Ted Kennedy rented with his wife, Joan in the 1960s is for sale.

For $22 Million, you could own the home that has entertained several past presidents, and even was a venue for a performance by Elton John.

“It’s truly just one of the most grand and fine homes in Washington,” said Daniel Heider, Vice President and Global Real Estate Advisor at TTR Sotheby’s International Realty.

The home, located at 1607 28th Street NW has 10 bedrooms, 8 full bathrooms, 3 half baths and off-street parking for 11 vehicles. It was built in 1887.

Heider says the owners have spared no expense when it comes to the decor. “There’s a gorgeous cherry panel Billiards Room, stunning floating Edwardian box staircases and beautiful Calcutta Marble and limestone. Just some of the richest, most timeless tasteful treatments and fixtures throughout the home.”

The property he says is a little over a quarter of an acre, has direct views of the Evermay Gardens, a private lawn, and a lilly pond.

While the home has been rented in the past, Heider says the current owner is looking for someone to purchase the property.

It’s scheduled to go on the market next month. Private tours are available by contacting Heider at (202) 234-3344.
