CLARKSBURG, MD — (WMAL) A burning recycling facility off Rt. 355 in Clarksburg produced a column of smoke that could be seen for miles, slowing traffic Wednesday morning in the I-270 corridor, and shutting down a portion of Rt. 355.

The fire in a large warehouse that is used as a recycling facility for construction materials, including wood, drywall and asphalt, was reported early Wednesday morning. There have been no injuries, but the fire quickly burned through the roof, and firefighters have spent the night spraying water on it from outside the building.

Firefighters are challenged by a lack of water in the area, and they have been shuttling in tanker trucks to distribute water to fight the flames.

The fire has produced a huge column of smoke, and the sight slowed traffic on I-270 throughout the morning commute.

Fire investigators have not determined a cause for the fire.
