5am – A/B/C Workplace Gender Biases Differ Depending On Whether You Have Kids. TUCSON, Ariz. — Men and women face different biases in the workplace if they’re parents, previous research has shown, with fathers receiving more preferential treatment while mothers are viewed more negatively. Now a new study finds that those biases are especially influenced by marital status — but present different outcomes — particularly when a parent is single. ast studies have found that women suffer a net wage penalty of 5 to 7 percent per child, and they are viewed as less competent and committed by colleagues after having children. Fathers, on the other hand, are actually subject to pay raises, and are generally viewed in a more positive light by co-workers. But those studies hadn’t taken marital status or single-parent situations into account. So researchers from the University of Arizona examined how biases towards parents change when peers consider marital status. For the study, the research team had 160 college students review fictitious job applications, resumes, and notes from interviewers for a group of comparable candidates seeking a senior-level role at a communications company. Included in the data were candidates’ gender, marital status, and parental status. Study participants were then asked to evaluate each candidate based on the information they reviewed for each.

5am – D         TRUMP vs SESSIONS:

  • Trump opens fire on his Attorney General Jeff Sessions again with claim he is running Justice Department the same way as Obama’s appointee Eric Holder. President Trump has repeatedly expressed frustration about his attorney general’s recusal from overseeing the Russia investigation. He targeted Jeff Sessions before leaving for a 9/11 memorial service. The president has not been shy in the past about his displeasure with Sessions, who was one of his earliest supporters on Capitol Hill during the 2016 campaign. Trump values loyalty and has called out Sessions for being disloyal. He has, however, said Sessions will stay in the job until after the election.
  • Ann Coulter defends Jeff Sessions, says he’s ‘saving’ Trump presidency (Washington Times) — Conservative commentator Ann Coulter on Tuesday stood up for beleaguered Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a Tweet, while taking a swipe at Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell. “How about directing some of this Twitter venom toward Mitch McConnell, the man who is wrecking your presidency, rather than the AG who’s saving it,” Coulter wrote in response to a Trump tweet. Earlier in the day, President Trump tweeted at Fox Business Channel host Lou Hobbs, claiming the Department of Justice was no different than it was when President Obama’s Attorney General Eric Holder was running things.

5am – E         INTERVIEW – RAY STAGICH – Weather Channel meteorologist — latest on path of hurricane and how it will impact the DC area

  • Hurricane Florence in Washington region: The worst is likely to stay south. (Washington Post) – Hurricane Florence may unleash “catastrophic flash flooding” in the Carolinas, and the excessive rainfall could easily creep into Virginia. But, based on the best available computer model forecasts, the storm’s extreme rainfall is likely to remain south of Washington. However, even as the storm’s effects on the region may be diminished, they may not be entirely denied. There is still some chance that the region will endure disruptive rain and wind from the storm. This risk increases as you head south into central Virginia toward Charlottesville and Richmond, and especially southern and southwestern Virginia. In addition, even if the storm’s center remains well south of the Washington region, there may still be a push of seawater up the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay sufficient to cause some flooding along its shores.

6am – A/B/C Illegal immigrants cited in theft of 39 million Social Security numbers. (Washington Examiner) — Nearly 40 million Social Security numbers have been stolen and used by illegal immigrants and others to get work, according to agency records obtained by an immigration reform group. The Immigration Reform Law Institute said that from 2012 to 2016 there were “39 million instances where names and Social Security numbers on W-2 tax forms did not match the corresponding Social Security records.” The group said that there is a “thriving black market” used by illegal immigrants to get Social Security numbers needed to get a job. Their report draws attention to a move by former President Barack Obama to stop sending so-called “no match” letters to employers notifying them that numbers used by employees on the wage forms do not match their identity. The change followed the president’s decision to approve amnesty for some 700,000 younger immigrants let into the U.S. under his Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. Some of those have been dubbed “dreamers.” Several groups promoting immigration reform and limitations have shown that illegal immigrants compete with low-income Americans for jobs. “The Social Security numbers of young children are especially sought by illegal aliens, as this theft is likely to go undetected for years. As children reach late teenage years and apply for credit for cars, student loans, and other needs, they may find that their credit has been compromised with mortgages, credit cards and criminal records attached to their identities,” said the group.

6am – D         INTERVIEW – CAL THOMAS – syndicated columnist – discussed President Trump cancelling his trip to Ireland after Prime Minister’s disparaging remarks, Obama’s speech in Illinois, Trump closing the D.C. PLO office and the Washington Post’s editorial this morning which claims Trump is “complicit” in Hurricane Florence.

6am – E         House Republicans Unveil Plan to Make Individuals’ Tax Cuts Permanent. Legislation seeks to also lock in new standard deductions, as well as special deduction for owners of pass-through businesses. (CBS News) — WASHINGTON—House Republicans have introduced legislation to lock in cuts to individual tax rates beyond 2025, a proposal that will have trouble advancing in the Senate but which sends a signal about GOP priorities ahead of competitive midterm elections. House Republicans have introduced bills for a second phase of tax cuts, after the Trump administration announced plans to pursue “tax reform 2.0” as a follow-up to last year’s legislation.  On Monday, House Republicans introduced three bills — the Protecting Family and Small Business Tax Cuts Act of 2018, the Family Savings Act of 2018 and the American Innovation Act of 2018 — to further slash taxes and make other changes to the nation’s tax code. The Trump administration was criticized when last year’s legislation, known as the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act, made the cut in the corporate tax rate permanent but allowed for cuts for individuals to expire after 2025. Republicans’ new legislation would make cuts for individuals and small businesses permanent.  The package of bills comes less than two months ahead of the November midterm elections as Republicans hope to keep control of the chamber.  “Last year we said goodbye to America’s old, broken tax code,” House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Rep. Kevin Brady said in a statement introducing the bills. “Under our new system, we’re seeing incredible job growth, bigger paychecks, and a tax code that works on behalf of families and American businesses. Now it’s the time to ensure we never let our tax code become so outdated again. We look forward to bringing these bills to the committee soon.”

6am – F         GOOGLE BOMBSHELL:

  • House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy blasts Google, says ‘an invite’ is incoming. U.S. House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy blasted Google in a tweet on Tuesday, saying an “invite will be on its way” to the company — presumably a request for it to testify. Google did not immediately respond to CNBC’s emailed requests for comments. Phone calls made to McCarthy’s offices outside business hours went unanswered.
  • CENSORED: Network Morning Shows Blackout Bombshell Report on Google Helping Hillary (Newsbusters) — None of the network morning shows (ABC’s Good Morning America, CBS This Morning, NBC’s Today) spent any time on this shocking development.

7am – A         SOCIAL MEDIA NEWS:

  • Center for Immigration Studies says Twitter is tagging the phrase ‘illegal alien’ as ‘hateful content’ (Twitchy) — Back in 2013, the Associated Press Style Guide proudly announced that it was no longer sanctioning the term “illegal immigrant” or the use of “illegal” to describe a person: “Except in direct quotations, do not use the terms illegal alien, an illegal, illegals or undocumented.” And as far back as 2016, when she was running for Senate, Kamala Harris declared the term “illegal alien” offensive and that “we must stop treating undocumented workers as criminals in this country” — a pretty good sign of where her priorities stand when it comes to illegal immigrants vs. U.S. citizens. Now the nonpartisan Center for Immigration Studies is complaining that Twitter is not allowing it to promote any tweets which include the hate speech, “illegal alien.”
  • Center for Immigration Studies @CIS_org 1/ Twitter is not allowing us to promote any tweets including the phrase “illegal alien(s)”, citing it as Hateful Content. However, the phrase “illegal aliens” has been used in both federal law and by the Supreme Court. 1:32 PM – Sep 11, 2018
  • Sessions Open to Probe of Social Media Giants, Sources Say (Bloomberg) —  Attorney General Jeff Sessions is exploring a potential investigation of social media companies and will be briefed on Sept. 25 by Republican state attorneys general who are already examining the firms’ practices, according to two people familiar with the matter. The meeting — which will include a representative of the Justice Department’s antitrust division — is intended to help Sessions decide if there’s a federal case to be made against companies such as Alphabet Inc.’s Google, Facebook Inc. and Twitter Inc. for violating consumer-protection or antitrust laws, the people said. They asked not to be identified discussing the matter because of its sensitivity. Sessions hasn’t made up his mind about whether to proceed, the people said. At least one of the attorneys general participating in the meeting has indicated he seeks to break up the companies. A Justice Department probe of the social media giants for potentially improper business practices would likely trigger a political firestorm. President Donald Trump and congressional Republicans have complained that Facebook, Google and Twitter have censored or otherwise suppressed some conservatives.

7am – B/C     INTERVIEW – JOHN TROUT – WMAL’s Meteorologist (IN STUDIO) – shared the latest on path of hurricane and how it will impact the DC area.

7am – D         TECH NEWS: (v)

  • Study: U.S. consumers are embracing smart speakers. Smart speakers aren’t just collecting dust on kitchen counters. More than 75% of smart speaker owners cited an increase in using voice-assisted technology in the past year, according to a new study from Adobe Analytics. Why it matters: Despite the technology’s big brother persona, the study shows people are becoming more comfortable with incorporating voice assistants into their everyday lives. It also suggests that both the current boom in smart speaker purchases and predictions for big future growth are happening because consumers are learning that the devices can be used for more than just weather updates.
  • Apple expected to unveil bigger, pricier iPhone on Wednesday. SAN FRANCISCO — Apple is expected to unveil its biggest and most expensive iPhone on Wednesday as part of a lineup of three new models aimed at widening the product’s appeal amid slowing sales growth. Most of the buzz is swirling around a rumored iPhone that is supposed to boast a 6.5-inch OLED screen, up from 5.8 inches on the existing iPhone X. OLED is a step up from traditional LCD technology in offering a display without a backlight, so black is truly black rather than simply dark.

7am – E         ENTERTAINMENT NEWS:

  • Alex Trebek has a beard now and Jeopardy fans are shook (Decider) – This morning, you may have gotten a push notification about a major news story with global implications. I’m not talking about Mueller’s investigation into President Trump or Hurricane Florence; I’m talking about Jeopardy host Alex Trebek’s beard, y’all. Oh, you don’t think Trebek’s beard is breaking news? Think again. On Monday night, the veteran host stunned viewers when he debuted a new bearded look, and Jeopardy fans haven’t stopped talking about his facial hair since. There’s even a poll on the show’s social media pages asking fans to weigh in on the life-or-death issue.  Trebek first revealed the beard on Saturday in a promo video for Jeopardy’s 35th anniversary season. “I’m back for another season of Jeopardy. That, I hope, shouldn’t surprise you,” said Trebek. “The beard, by now you’ve all heard about it, so you’re not surprised by that either.” What is, wrong? Clearly, the Season 35 promo didn’t adequately prepare viewers, because after the show’s Monday night premiere, fans took to social media to share their thoughts about the #Trebeard. “I about had a minor coronary when Alex walked out,” one fan shared on Twitter. “Do whatever makes you happy, Alex,” a particularly well-adjusted viewer wrote.
  • ‘The Tonight Show’ Cancels Norm Macdonald Appearance After Comedian’s #MeToo Comment. Norm Macdonald’s appearance on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” was hastily canceled Tuesday after the comedian stirred controversy with remarks about the #MeToo movement and the treatment of Louis C.K., Chris Hardwick and Roseanne in recent scandals. “Out of sensitivity to our audience and in light of Norm Macdonald’s comments in the press today, ‘The Tonight Show’ has decided to cancel his appearance on Tuesday’s telecast,” NBC said in a statement. “Tonight Show’s” decision to drop Macdonald came even after he apologized for his comments later in the day. In an interview with Hollywood Reporter, Macdonald said he was “happy the #MeToo movement has slowed down a little bit.” He further opined: “It used to be, ‘One hundred women can’t be lying.’ And then it became, ‘One woman can’t lie.’ And that became, ‘I believe all women.’ And then you’re like, ‘What?’ Like, that Chris Hardwick guy I really thought got the blunt end of the stick there.” He also stated that he felt Roseanne Barr was treated harshly in the storm that ensued after she likened Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett to an ape in an early morning tweet in May. Barr was fired and her “Roseanne” sitcom revival was canceled within hours (it was ultimately revived as “The Conners” without Barr’s involvement). Macdonald, who got his start as a writer working on Barr’s original ABC  eries, described Barr’s and Louis C.K.’s struggle (C.K. lost his deal with FX, among other projects, after revelations of his sexual misconduct). “There are very few people that have gone through what they have, losing everything in a day,” Macdonald said.

  • Trump opens fire on his Attorney General Jeff Sessions again with claim he is running Justice Department the same way as Obama’s appointee Eric Holder.
  • Ann Coulter defends Jeff Sessions, says he’s ‘saving’ Trump presidency
  • Thoughts on GOP pushing for border wall funding: Trump Would Shut Down Government Over A Border Wall; Some Say He Should.– President Donald Trump drew cheers at a rally in Montana last week when he said, “If it was up to me, I would shut down government over border security.” Trump said he wants to build his long-promised wall along the Southwest border, but people such as Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell have said they’d rather wait until after the midterm election. “They don’t want to do anything to upset the apple cart,” Trump said.
