Brett Kavanaugh’s mother is judge who dismissed a foreclosure action against accuser Ford’s parents (FOX News)

The parents of the woman who is accusing Brett Kavanaugh of sexual misconduct have a connection to the Supreme Court nominee through his mother, a Maryland state judge, online court records show.

Martha Kavanaugh granted a motion dismissing a 1996 foreclosure action against Ralph and Paula Blasey, according to the records.

Christine Blasey Ford publicly came forward Sunday to accuse Brett Kavanaugh of sexual assault decades ago when they were both teenagers in prep school. [Read More]

Move aside helicopter moms, lawnmower parents are on the rise (ABC News)

Helicopter parents may hover and tiger moms may roar, but make room for the lawnmower parent whose approach to child-rearing is generating buzz.

In an essay recently published on the site Weareteachers.com, an anonymous educator calls the parenting style a “troubling trend.”

“Lawnmower parents go to whatever lengths necessary to prevent their child from having to face adversity, struggle, or failure,” the teacher wrote. [Read More]

Pampers drops Sesame Street characters from diapers (FOX 5 DC)

Elmo, Big Bird and the Cookie Monster are being pulled from Pampers diapers. Procter and Gamble, the maker of Pampers, quietly began replacing the Sesame Street characters over the summer.

P & G customer service representatives have reportedly stated the changes came after parents complained of too many male characters on the diapers.

Procter and Gamble confirmed the switch to different graphics on the diapers, but did not provide a reason. [Read More]

Bill to legalize sports betting in DC being introduced at city council meeting (WJLA)

A city councilmember will be introducing a bill that would legalize sports betting in D.C. at Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting.

In a press release, Councilmember Jack Evans says he is introducing the “Sports Wagering Lottery Amendment Act of 2018.” [Read More]

The D.C. Council Is Challenging The Mayor’s Control Of D.C. Schools (DCist)

Members of the D.C. Council are challenging Mayor Muriel Bowser’s control of schools.

Council Member David Grosso (I-At Large) is introducing a bill that would make the Office of State Superintendent of Education (OSSE) an independent agency outside of the mayor’s office. OSSE currently oversees federal funding, enrollment, and education standards for D.C. Public Schools.

The bill would also extend the term of the superintendent from four years to six and it would only allow the superintendent to be fired with just cause. Currently, the mayor can hire and fire the superintendent at will. The legislation further gives OSSE the authority to hire all of its personnel, rather than allow the mayor’s office to fill certain positions. [Read More]

Keith Ellison domestic violence accuser says Democratic party doesn’t believe her story (FOX News)

The woman who accused Minnesota Democratic Rep. Keith Ellison of domestic abuse said on Monday that Democrats don’t believe her story and threatened to isolate her over the allegations.

Karen Monahan, a former girlfriend, came forward last month alleging that Ellison sent her threatening text messages and once screamed obscenities at her as he dragged her off a bed by her feet.

Ellison has denied the accusations, saying he “never behaved this way.” He did acknowledge he was in a relationship with the woman. [Read More]
