GOP aims for speedy Kavanaugh confirmation as FBI completes background check (The Washington Times)

The FBI was sending its new background check into Supreme Court nominee Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh to the Senatelate Wednesday, and Republicans moved quickly to set up a first floor test, a vote to end a Democratic filibuster, for Friday.

FBI agents had been sent back to update Judge Kavanaugh’s file after sexual misconduct allegations were lodged last month against him, stemming from high school and college parties more than 30 years ago.

Senators will look over the new information beginning Thursday — though in keeping with Senate rules, there are no plans for a public release of the findings.

“This evening, the Senate will receive the results of the FBI’s supplemental background investigation of Judge Brett Kavanaugh,” Majority Leader Mitch McConnell said as he took the chamber floor just before 10 p.m. Wednesday. “This is now the seventh time the FBI has looked into Judge Kavanaugh’s background. And this information comes on top of what has already been one of the most thorough, most exhaustive Senate reviews of any Supreme Court nominee in our nation’s history.” [Read More]

‘Cancel Kavanaugh’ Demonstrators March to Supreme Court (NBC Washington)

People opposed to the Supreme Court nomination of Judge Brett Kavanaugh amid allegations of sexual assault and misconduct marched through the streets of Washington Thursday afternoon.

A crowd of demonstrators chanted and held signs. Some said “I believe Dr. Ford” and “I believe Anita.” Other signs quoted Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s testimony. “Indelible in the hippocampus is the laughter,” one poster said, quoting what Ford said haunted her about what she said Kavanaugh and his friend did as teenagers.

A number of celebrities were expected to attend, including Whoopi Goldberg and Alicia Keys.  [Read More]

Senate Judiciary Republicans hold news conference on Kavanaugh confirmation (CBS  News)

The general consensus so far from Republicans who have viewed the FBI report about Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh’s background is that is yields no new information or additional corroborating information. Democrats, however, are blasting the report as severely incomplete.

Senators on Thursday are taking turns reviewing the report following demands for a more thorough investigation into allegations of sexual misconduct leveled against President Trump’s nominee. The White House received the report overnight, and transmitted it to the Senate Judiciary Committee, before each member of the Senate has a chance to review a single copy in person on Capitol Hill. Republicans still plan to begin voting on Kavanaugh on the Senate floor Friday, with final votes on Saturday.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chuck Grassley claimed the report reveals nothing the committee did not already know, and reveals no “contemporaneous evidence” to support the allegations. [Read More]

GOP-doxxing suspect arrested; worked or interned for Feinstein, Jackson Lee, other Dems (FOX News)

A Democratic congressional intern was arrested Wednesday and accused of posting the personal information of at least one Republican senator during last week’s hearing about sexual assault claims against Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh, authorities said.

U.S. Capitol Police said 27-year-old Jackson Cosko was charged with making public restricted personal information, witness tampering, threats in interstate communication, unauthorized access of a government computer, identity theft, second-degree burglary and unlawful entry. Police added that the investigation was continuing and more charges could be filed.

Senior congressional sources tell Fox News that Cosko most recently worked as an unpaid intern for Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee, D-Texas. He previously worked with Sen. Maggie Hassan, D-N.H., and former Democratic Sen. Barbara Boxer of California. He also worked or interned with the office of Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, as well as with at least one other unnamed lawmaker. A LinkedIn page with Cosko’s name on it describes him as a “Democratic Political Professional & Cybersecurity Graduate Student.” [Read More]

Collusion bombshell: DNC lawyers met with FBI on Russia allegations before surveillance warrant (The Hill)

Congressional investigators have confirmed that a top FBI official met with Democratic Party lawyers to talk about allegations of Donald Trump-Russia collusion weeks before the 2016 election, and before the bureau secured a search warrant targeting Trump’s campaign.

Former FBI general counsel James Baker met during the 2016 season with at least one attorney from Perkins Coie, the Democratic National Committee’s private law firm.

That’s the firm used by the DNC and Hillary Clinton’s campaign to secretly pay research firmFusion GPS and Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence operative, to compile a dossier of uncorroborated raw intelligence alleging Trump and Moscow were colluding to hijack the presidential election.
