Democrats Have Become A Dangerous Threat To Our Institutions (The Federalist)

When modern Democrats talk about preseving “norms,” traditions,” or even the “Constitution,” they’re really talking about preserving their preferred policies. We know this because “liberals” have shown themselves not only willing to destroy the legitimacy of institutions like the presidency, the Senate ,and Supreme Court to protect those policies, they’re willing to break down basic norms of civility, as well.

Take the example of Hillary Clinton. In the very first sentence in her new scaremongering essay, which makes the case that America’s “democratic institutions and traditions are under siege,” she attacks our democratic institutions and traditions. “It’s been nearly two years since Donald Trump won enough Electoral College votes to become president of the United States,” the piece begins. Taylor Swift bashes Blackburn in favor of Tennessee Dems, breaking political silence (FOX News)

Taylor Swift — the pop star who notably has strayed from politics — broke that silence on Sunday, writing on Instagram that she’ll be voting for Tennessee Democrats in the midterm elections.

Swift, 28, slammed Republican Senate candidate Marsha Blackburn in an Instagram post.

“As much as I have in the past and would like to continue voting for women in office, I cannot support Marsha Blackburn,” Swift told her 112 million Instagram followers. “Her voting record in Congress appalls and terrifies me.” [Read More]

Can DC Council Candidate Michael Bekesha Convince Local Dems to Vote Republican? (Washingtonian)

There hasn’t been a Republican on the DC Council for almost a decade, and Michael Bekesha wants to change that. Running his long-shot campaign from a rented desk at a WeWork near his home in Navy Yard, the attorney is trying to unseat incumbent Charles Allen to represent Ward 6, which stretches across Capitol Hill, Shaw, and Navy Yard.

Republican candidates in local DC races have typically positioned themselves away from the national conservative operatives who happen to be based here. Not Bekesha: When not holed up in his coworking HQ, he’s an attorney for the conservative organization Judicial Watch, which has made a point of going after Robert Mueller. But he says that in policy terms, he’s running as a different kind of Republican—a necessity in a city where only 4 percent of voters opted for Trump in the 2016 election. “I’m socially progressive but fiscally responsible,” Bekesha says, settling into a sofa in a WeWork conference room. What does that mean in the context of local government? And can he possibly win? [Read More]

Brett Kavanaugh Confirmed, Possibly Most Conservative Supreme Court Since 1934 (Breitbart)

Brett Kavanaugh became the 114th justice to serve on the U.S. Supreme Court on Saturday, when the Senate confirmed him by a vote of 50-48, handing President Trump and Republicans a historic victory that shifts the balance of power on the Court.

The vote came in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday, less than 30 hours after the Senate invoked cloture late Friday morning to end an attempted filibuster by Senate Democrats and one Republican, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-AK). Senators invoked cloture by a vote of of 51-49, thanks to the “nuclear option” first engineered by Democrats under former Sen. Harry Reid (D-NV) in 2013, lowering the threshold from 60 to 51 for presidential nominations.

Sen. Steve Daines (R-MT) was in his home state during the final vote, walking his daughter down the aisle at her wedding. Daines was willing to take a private jet immediately back to Washington if necessary to cast the deciding vote, but Murkowski – the only Republican to oppose Kavanaugh – agreed to vote “Present” instead of “No” on the final vote, to neutralize the effect of Daines’ absence and keep the two-vote margin for Kavanaugh’s confirmation. Bill And Hillary Clinton To Embark On 13-City Speaking Tour (Deadline)

President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton are embarking on a 13-city tour beginning this fall, in which they engage each other in conversation, without an interviewer posing awkward questions.

The events, produced by Live Nation, kick off November 13 in Las Vegas, after the conclusion of the midterm elections where Democrats hope to pick up seats in Congress in the first major national election since Donald Trump took office. Trump beat Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election. [Read More]
