A few of the masterminds behind the bogus Trump-Russia collusion tale finally are getting some payback—and one of their targets is going to court to get his reputation back.Two years ago this week, the Obama Administration’s FBI sought and received an order to spy on Carter Page, a private citizen who briefly volunteered for Donald Trump’s presidential campaign. On October 21, 2016, the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court approved an application to wiretap the former Naval officer amid suspicions he was a working for Russia and engaged in “clandestine intelligence activities…on behalf of a foreign power.” [Read More]

Public hearing on legalizing sports betting in DC (WJLA)

The “Sports Wagering Lottery Amendment Act of 2018” bill introduced by Ward 2 Councilmember Jack Evans is facing a public hearing Wednesday.

If the bill passes, a person, for example, could buy a ticket to watch the Wizards or Capitals at Capital One Arena and then place a bet on the game there.

In May, the Supreme Court ruled that states could legalize sports betting. Prior to the ruling, Nevada was the only state where sports bets could be made. It is estimated that as many as 30 states could legalize gambling within the next year.

Evans says there is $150 billion in underground gambling on sports in America thanks to the internet. He says it should be regulated and taxed, creating a new stream of revenue for the city. [Read More]

Maryland gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous releases plans to address gender wage gap, ethics reform (The Baltimore Sun)

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Ben Jealous this week released two plans aimed at addressing the gender wage gap in Maryland and tightening ethics regulations.

In South Baltimore on Tuesday morning, Jealous pledged to hire new Maryland government inspectors to investigate wage discrimination at businesses in the state.

Jealous, who has pledged that a majority of his cabinet members will be women, said the inspectors would request pay information from companies and conduct reviews to prevent systemic pay discrimination. [Read More]

REPORT: MUELLER WILL PRESENT FINDINGS FROM TRUMP-RUSSIA PROBE AFTER MIDTERMS (The Daily Caller)

Special Counsel Robert Mueller is planning to present key findings from his investigation of President Donald Trump after November’s midterm elections, according to a report from Bloomberg News.

Two U.S. officials told Bloomberg that Mueller could very well continue his investigation after presenting his findings to Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing the Trump-Russia probe because of Attorney General Jeff Sessions’ recusal.

Rosenstein will then have the option of releasing the Mueller findings to the public and making recommendations to Congress.

Since May 2017, Mueller has been investigating whether members of the Trump campaign conspired with Russian government officials to release emails stolen from Democrats. He is also investigating whether Trump himself obstructed justice by firing James Comey as FBI director. [Read More]

Pelosi Not Willing to Trade Over Border Wall, Calls It Trump ‘Manhood Issue’ (Roll Call)

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said Tuesday there is nothing she would trade for President Donald Trump’s border wall, setting a hard negotiating stance in advance of an expected December showdown over the issue.

“It happens to be like a manhood issue for the president, building a wall, and I’m not interested in that,” the California Democrat said during a discussion at the Harvard Kennedy School’s Institute of Politics.

Pelosi emphasized Democrats do support border security but they would prefer to look at strengthening existing security measures as part of a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws. [Read More]
