Winter storm warning in effect until 12 a.m. Monday

WASHINGTON (WMAL) – The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning through 12 a.m. Monday for the D.C. metro area.

NWS Meteorologist Dan Hoffman said there will be heavier bursts around the region, and then it should lighten up in intensity to more flurries around 7 or 8 p.m. Sunday. He expects it to end completely around midnight.

So how much snow will this storm dump on us when all is said and done? Inside the Beltway Hoffman expects there to be 7 to 10 inches. Outside the Beltway as many as twelve inches of snow are expected.

Crews are out clearing roads around the area. People are advised not to drive unless absolutely necessary.

More than a dozen school systems will be closed Monday. Check WMAL’s Storm Center for updates.
