Mornings on the Mall

Friday, March 1, 2019

Hosts: Mary Walter and Vince Coglianese

Executive Producer: Heather Hunter

5am – A/B/C RECAP: WMAL’s Host Vince Coglianese interviewed RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel From The CPAC Stage.

5am – D/E     INTERVIEW – PROFESSOR WILFRED REILLY —  Professor of Political Science at Kentucky State University and author of new book “Hate Crime Hoax” — discussed his new book “Hate Crime Hoax: How the Left is Selling a Fake Race War.”

  • Poli-sci professor Wilfred Reilly has found more than 400 instances of hate crime hoaxes in America in his research. The epidemic we are experiencing isn’t in hate crimes but rather hate hoaxes.
  • Is President Trump Responsible for Racial Division in America? The answer is No. Although the media continually reports that President Trump has ushered in a new era of racial hatred in our country, the majority of hate crimes occurring in the United States since 2016 have been hoaxes.
  • Hate Crime Hoax: How the Left is Selling a Fake Race War, written by African American Professor Wilfred Reilly, is a detailed, profoundly pro-Black and pro-American work of social science exposing the shocking statistics on hate crime hoaxes in the United states.
  • ABOUT BOOK: If you believe the news, today’s America is plagued by an epidemic of violent hate crimes. But is that really true? In Hate Crime Hoax, Professor Wilfred Reilly examines over one hundred widely publicized incidents of so-called hate crimes that never actually happened. With a critical eye and attention to detail, Reilly debunks these fabricated incidents—many of them alleged to have happened on college campuses—and explores why so many Americans are driven to fake hate crimes. We’re not experiencing an epidemic of hate crimes, Reilly concludes—but we might be experiencing an unprecented epidemic of hate crime hoaxes.
  • BIO: Wilfred Reilly is a tenure-track Professor of Political Science at Kentucky State University. His interests include International Relations, contemporary American race relations, and the use of modern quantitative/empirical methods to test “sacred cow” theories. He is the author of The $50,000,000 Question: An Engagingly Empirical Examination of the Relationship between “Privilege” and Pride.

6am – A/B/C CPAC Day 1 Highlights

6am – D         INTERVIEW – BARRY MORGENSTEIN – Conservative photographer

  • Barry Morgenstein is a celebrity photographer and has photographed the top leaders in the conservative movement, in addition to world leaders, top Billboard artists and Hollywood celebrities. He joined WMAL’s morning show at CPAC to discuss how he’s been banned on Twitter for his conservative views.

6am – E         FROM VINCE’S INTERVIEW WITH THE GOP CHAIR: RNC Chair Ronna McDaniel scoffs at notion of primary challengers to Trump. (Washington Times) — Republican National Committee Chair Ronna McDaniel dismissed challenges to President Trump’s election bid from the left and right, though warned against underestimating the push for socialism. Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference Thursday, the face of the Republican campaign arm brushed off any thought of a serious primary contest against the president. “They have the right to jump in and lose,” Ms. McDaniel said. Former Massachusetts Gov. Bill Weld launched an exploratory committee, the first to take a step towards a formal Republican bid. Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan and former Ohio Gov. John Kasich are also rumored to be potential primary challengers. Ms. McDaniel particularly aimed at former Rep. Beto O’Rourke and former Vice President Joseph R. Biden, arguing that neither has a strong enough record to run on.

6am – F         Bernie Sanders hires illegal immigrant to be press secretary. (Washington Examiner) — Sen. Bernie Sanders’ new deputy national press secretary likely won’t be eligible to vote in the 2020 election due to what she says is her status as an undocumented immigrant. The hiring of Belen Sisa, an Arizona leftist activist, was announced Wednesday evening. Sisa, who says she was brought to this country illegally from Argentina by her parents at age six, is currently protected from deportation under President Barack Obama’s Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, program. Despite her immigration status, Sisa has remained active in liberal politics over the years. In 2016, she worked as a page to the Arizona delegation at the Democratic National Convention and in Latino outreach for Sanders’ 2016 campaign. “For someone who was so scared of participating in anything, and coming out and doing this, it’s pretty hard to believe I’m standing in the middle of it all,” she said at the time. Sisa soon lost her fear of participation. She has been arrested at least twice for protests throughout her activist career. As a college senior in 2017, she was jailed for her role in a sit-in outside of Sen. Chuck Schumer’s, D-N.Y., office. While in jail, Sisa told reporters that she organized a “prison strike.” Just weeks before that, she was arrested for a protest outside the Senate Hart Office Building. Both protests were over immigration reform and a demand that Congress pass the DREAM Act — a bill that would permanently legalize children who were brought into the country illegally — “cleanly,” without extraneous provisions. “She’s so brave,” Sisa’s mother said at the time. “DACA is expiring every day. Hers is going to expire in one year and what are we going to do with all of these youth? Congress has to pass the DREAM Act.

7am – A         INTERVIEW – SPENCER BROWN – YAF SPOKESPERSON

  • Why do millennials LOVE socialism? Why are college students and recent grads embracing leftist leaders and socialist policies that have historically failed?
  • A report (2018-2019 Comedy and Tragedy) released by Young America’s Foundation (YAF) this week exposes the craziest and most politically correct college courses clearly designed to indoctrinate students with a liberal agenda.

  • HERE ARE THE TOP 5 ANTI FREE MARKET/ANTI CAPITALIST COURSES:
    • 1.      University of Nebraska – ECON 445—Gender Economics and Social Provisioning: Introduction to the field of feminist economics. Critiques of economic theory and methodology along with gender and household decision-making, the care economy, international migration, development, globalization, the feminization of labor markets, and macroeconomics.
    • 2.      Williams College – AFR 342—Racial Capitalism: This class will interrogate the ways in which capitalist economies have “always and everywhere” relied upon forms of racist domination and exclusion. Although the United States will be in the foreground, the subject requires an international perspective by its very nature. We will consider the ways in which the violent expropriation of land from the indigenous peoples of the Americas, paired with chattel slavery and other coercive forms of labor, made possible the rise of a capitalist world economy centered in Europe during the early modern period. We will then explore ways racial divisions have undermined the potential for unified movements of poor and working people to challenge the prerogatives of wealthy citizens, and served to excuse imperial violence waged in the name of securing resources and “opening markets.” Ideas about gender and sexuality always undergird racial imaginaries, so we will study, for instance, the ways rhetoric about “welfare queens” has impacted public assistance programs, and claims about the embodiment of Asian women play into the international division of labor. We will also be attentive to the means – from interracial unionism to national liberation struggles – by which subjects of racial capitalism have resisted its dehumanizing effects. This is a reading intensive course that will challenge students to synthesize historical knowledge with concepts drawn from scholars working in the traditions of Marxist, decolonial, and materialist feminist thought, including: Angela Davis, Cedric Robinson, Anibal Quijano, Chandra Mohanty, David Roediger, Stuart Hall, Ruth Wilson Gilmore, and Silvia Federici.
    • 3.      Middlebury College – ECON 0405—Economics of Discrimination: In this seminar we will explore the economics of discrimination from both theoretical and empirical perspectives. After reviewing the main theoretical frameworks, we will discuss recent empirical studies on issues of discrimination associated with race, ethnicity, gender, or nationality, focusing on applications in the labor market. We will then investigate to what extent inter-group contact of policies such as quotas or affirmative action can address discrimination.Students will explore a specific topic of interest (e.g., police violence, sexual orientation, sport, education, etc.) in more detail and develop a research proposal.
    • 4.      Harvard University – PSY 1581—Psychology of Economic Inequality: Every society in the world is structured such that some people earn higher incomes, have greater access to resources, and enjoy more social power and status than others. Scholars across several disciplines have sought to explain why income inequality is ubiquitous and persistent. In this course, we are particularly concerned with how features of the mind, and the mind in society, help explain the widening gap between the rich and the poor. How do people perceive income inequality, and how do those perceptions influence their social attitudes and policy positions? Why do people who stand to benefit from redistribution sometimes oppose it? How do we decide what’s fair, and when do perceptions of fairness emerge in human development? How does perceived lack of control or power affect the psychology of lows tatus groups, and how do those effects, in turn, influence power imbalances? In answering these questions, we’ll consider a diversity of perspectives from the literatures on evolutionary and developmental psychology, social psychology, political science and social policy.
    • 5.      Princeton University – FRS 139—Marx in the 21st Century – What would a Marxism for the 21st century look like? Our seminar will examine the contemporary viability of Marx’s fundamental concepts – such as labor, exploitation, ideology, and revolution. How must these concepts be reimagined to account for the specific shape of  contemporary capitalism? What can Marxism learn from forms of critical thought that have emerged more recently, especially those concerned with race and gender? Subtopics include affective labor, student-debt, social media and ‘algorithmic capitalism,’ Occupy Wall Street, Black Lives Matter.

7am – B         COHEN NEWS:

  • GOP REFERS COHEN TO DOJ FOR PERJURY: Committee Ranking Member Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and Rep. Mark Meadows, R-N.C., penned a letter Thursday to newly sworn-in Attorney General William Barr, citing evidence that Cohen “committed perjury” during his hearing before the committee on Wednesday.
  • TLAIB  & MEADOWS MAKE UP: “I looked up and there he was, thanking me for being gracious. We had an exchange about what happened in committee and we went our separate ways. It was really, you know, thoughtful of him to come up to me and to thank me that way,” Tlaib stated. “I think some of my colleagues were around were also kind of watching the exchange, but I did appreciate that he did that.”

7am – C         Bryce Harper agrees to deal with Philadelphia Phillies. (Washington Post) — Outfielder Bryce Harper agreed to a record-setting 13-year, $330 million contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Thursday, completing a protracted, four-month journey through free agency and officially ending his seven-year tenure with the Washington Nationals, the franchise that drafted and developed him, brought him to the majors as a teenager in 2012 and watched him blossom into one of baseball’s biggest superstars. Harper’s deal, which will become official once he passes a physical, with one of the Nationals’ biggest rivals surpassed Giancarlo Stanton’s 13-year, $325 million extension with the Miami Marlins in 2014 as the largest contract in the history of major North American sports. But agent Scott Boras fell short of making Harper the game’s highest-paid player by annual salary. The Phillies had been considered the favorites to sign Harper, 26, for much of the winter, owing in part to a November remark by owner John Middleton, who told USA Today he was willing to be “a little stupid” with his spending this winter. Talks intensified in recent weeks, and the Phillies ultimately held off late efforts by the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants. In recent weeks, the lack of a deal, despite the Phillies’ obvious interest and considerable resources, led to widespread speculation Harper did not want to play in Philadelphia and preferred a West Coast destination, closer to his Las Vegas home. But not only did Harper ultimately choose the Phillies, with a contract that won’t end until after 2031, he also agreed to a deal with a full no-trade clause and no opt-outs — signs that he intends to spend the rest of his career with the team. As National League East rivals, the Phillies play the Nationals 19 times this season, with Harper’s first appearance at Nationals Park coming April 2.

7am – D         INTERVIEW – GORDON CHANG – author of “Nuclear Showdown: North Korea Takes On the World” — analyzed negotiations with North Korea.

7am – E         Cory Booker Thinks Margaritas Are Made With Vodka. Senator Cory Booker (D-NJ) apparently thinks you need vodka to make a margarita, according to an interview he did with BuzzFeed Thursday morning. Asked to name the ingredients in the popular alcoholic drink, Booker said he believes margaritas are made of fruit, ice, and vodka, as BuzzFeed’s interviewers laughed hysterically. Booker was missing one of the most important ingredients. “Tequila!” the interviewers and staff members around Booker shouted, as the embarrassed senator corrected himself. “This might lose some votes from people in my family right now,” he said, half covering his face.

8am – A/B/C INTERVIEW – RICKY REBEL – top Billboard artist and LGTB activist discussed his album “The New Alpha” and why he wore pro-Trump attire to the Grammys.

  • Ricky Rebel made a statement at the 2019 GRAMMYs. The singer showed up in a white suit with silver embellishments, studded slouchy leather boots and mirrored statement glasses. Rebel surprised the crowd when he turned his jacket inside out to reveal a red-white-and-blue design emblazoned with the words “Keep America Great!,” “Trump” and “2020” in support of President Donald Trump.
