WASHINGTON–The US Attorney’s office for the District of Maryland  says 28 year old Rondell Henry of Germantown is charged with stealing a U-Haul van with the intention of running down people at National Harbor.

Henry has been charged with interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle, and authorities say he claimed to be “inspired by the ISIS terrorist organization”.

According to a detention memo,  Henry harbored “hatred” for those who do not practice the Muslim faith, and was inspired by videos of foreign terrorists.

Authorities say Henry decided to plan a vehicular attack, similar to the 2016 truck attack in Nice, France, for which ISIS claimed responsibility.

Henry is due in U.S. District Court on Tuesday, and if convicted could spend a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison for interstate transportation of a stolen vehicle.
