Attorney General William Barr on Wednesday confirmed that his Justice Department will be reviewing the origins and the methods of investigations into then-candidate Donald Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.
Barr has come under fire by Democrats for his handling of the yet-to-be-released, 400-page final report from special counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation of Russian election interference. He told lawmakers that he believes U.S. government agencies spied on the Trump campaign. [Read More]

US President Donald Trump, who gifted Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu with recognition of Israeli sovereignty over the Golan Heights just two weeks before the elections, congratulated Netanyahu on his election victory on Wednesday and said it is good for peace.

Former Planned Parenthood clinic director-turned-abortion opponent Abby Johnson told Hill.TV on Wednesday that the decision to give the new movie “Unplanned” an R rating helped her cause.
“I was a little surprised when we got the R rating. I watch cable TV and I’ve seen PG-13 films, and I know what’s in them, and I know that there’s far more graphic content on just regular TV these days,” Johnson, whom the film is centered around, told hosts Krystal Ball and Buck Sexton on “Rising.”
“It’s almost like the [Motion Picture Association of America] stumbled backwards into the truth by admitting that abortion is violent, that it is an act of violence, and that it is disturbing,” she continued. [Read More]
William Barr believes spying “did occur” on Trump campaign (CBS News)
It’s day two of questions for Attorney General William Barr who is being pressed on the impending release of special counsel Robert Mueller’s final report on Russian interference in the 2016 election.
Barr testified Wednesday that he thinks “there was spying” on the Trump campaign, a line likely to please President Trump. Beyond the Russia probe, Barr and Assistant Attorney General Lee Loftus are expected to testify before the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on the Justice Department’s budget for 2019. He later said that he defined “spying” as “unauthorized surveillance.” [Read More]
Justice Dept. Watchdog’s Review of Russia Inquiry Is Nearly Done, Barr Says (NYT)
The Justice Department’s internal watchdog intends to complete by May or June his investigation into aspects of the Russia inquiry, including whether law enforcement officials abused their powers in surveilling a former Trump campaign aide, Attorney General William P. Barr told lawmakers on Tuesday.
The department’s inspector general, Michael E. Horowitz, has been examining how law enforcement officials obtained a warrant in October 2016 to wiretap Carter Page, a former foreign policy adviser to the Trump campaign with links to Russia. Mr. Horowitz’s investigators have also asked witnesses about informants that the F.B.I. turned to in the early stages of the investigation, according to people familiar with his inquiry. [Read More]
