WASHINGTON (WMAL) – He was supposed to be teaching kids music, but police say an Annandale man was sexually abusing his students. Jeffrey Cummins, 56, faces eight felony counts of indecent liberties by a custodian for allegedly sexually abusing two former students. He was arrested Tuesday at Dulles International Airport after his flight landed.

Fairfax County Police started looking into Cummins last May when a child said the music teacher had been touching him inappropriately for years. Then in January of this year another child said Cummins had abused him. Police allege the abuse happened both during music lessons at his home and other times when the kids were at his house.

Cummins taught lessons at his home. He also founded Virginia Music Adventures, a traveling music group for school-age children and owned two Huntington Learning Centers, one in Tysons and the other in Springfield.

Police fear there could also be other victims and want people concerned that he could have had inappropriate contact with their children to contact them at 703-246-7800. Anonymous tips can also be texted to 274637. Type TIP187 plus the message.
