BARR: ‘VERY UNUSUAL’ FOR FBI TO RELY ON STEELE DOSSIER GIVEN ‘CLEAR MISTAKES’ (The Daily Caller)

Attorney General William Barr said in an interview that aired Friday that he is investigating what role the Steele dossier played in the Russia probe, and that the salacious document had “a number of clear mistakes.”

“It’s a very unusual situation to have opposition research like that, especially one that on its face had a number of clear mistakes and a somewhat jejune analysis,” Barr told Fox News’ Bill Hemmer.

“And to use that to conduct counterintelligence against an American political campaign is a strange — would be strange development.” [Read More]

Bill Barr vows to uncover ‘exactly what happened’ with Russia probe, says explanations have been ‘inadequate’ (FOX News)

Attorney General Bill Barr, in an exclusive interview with Fox News, said the country must know “exactly what happened” with counterintelligence activities conducted during the 2016 election — and he is determined to get to the bottom of the case.

In his first interview since becoming attorney general, Barr spoke to “America’s Newsroom” host Bill Hemmer during a visit to El Salvador for meetings with law enforcement officials. In pointed terms, he fired back at Democrats who have castigated him over his handling of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s report — calling Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s charge that he lied to Congress “laughable” and dismissing an attempt to hold him in contempt of Congress. Trump’s plan to take over Fourth of July celebration opposed by D.C. mayor (The Washington Post)

D.C. Mayor Muriel E. Bowser (D) said she opposes President Trump’s plan to put himself at the center of a redesigned Fourth of July celebration in the nation’s capital, expressing concerns about what could be major logistical changes and the resulting strain on police and emergency services.

During an interview Thursday, Bowser said she would prefer that the event on the Mall — which has not undergone wholesale changes to its planning since the aftermath of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001 — remain in its current format. [Read More]

Don’t underestimate the Democrats (Washington Examiner)

A consensus appears to be coming together on the Right that President Trump is headed to reelection in 2020. And why not? Republicans are united behind Trump and Democrats are fighting among themselves, as usual.

I don’t buy it. Trump may wind up winning, but at this point, his chances of a second term are no better than 50-50. Instead of a clear path to victory, he has two roadblocks in his way.

The first is the chunk of the GOP coalition that took a hike in the midterm election last November. Those who stayed home or voted for other parties’ candidates consisted of soft and moderate Republicans and independents who more or less lean Republican. [Read More]

Senator Amy Klobuchar Refuses To Condemn Late-Term Abortion On ‘The View’ (The Federalist)

When Senator Amy Klobuchar made a stop on “The View” Friday as part of her campaign for the 2020 Democratic nomination, she joined the ranks of many other extreme pro-abortion Democratic leaders who are in favor of late-term abortion.

When co-host Meghan McCain asked Klobuchar if she was in support of late-term abortion and Virginia Governor Ralph Northam’s comments on infanticide, the senator dodged the question, only commenting that she is for women having the right to make a choice for their own bodies. [Read More]

Buttigieg on Renaming Things Named After Thomas Jefferson: ‘It’s the Right Thing to Do’ (Washington Free Beacon)

Pete Buttigieg, who is running in a crowded Democratic field for president, said on Friday he believes renaming events and things named after President Thomas Jefferson is the “right thing to do.”

The South Bend mayor appeared on The Hugh Hewitt Show, where he was asked to weigh in on the name of the annual Indiana Democratic dinner, which was formerly named after party founders and former presidents Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson. Indiana Democrats changed the name of the annual dinner in 2016. [Read More]
