Open discussion on 287(g) program brings people from both sides (Frederick News Post)

A discussion was held yesterday at the Frederick Friends Meeting house about the 287(g) program adopted by the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office.

The program, first implemented in Frederick in 2008, provides training for sheriff’s deputies by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. It allows deputies to inquire about the immigration status of anyone booked into the county’s adult detention center and begin deportation proceedings if appropriate. Devin Nunes accuses Fusion GPS of racketeering in federal lawsuit  (Washington Examiner)

Congressman Devin Nunes filed a federal lawsuit Wednesday against opposition research firm Fusion GPS, its founder Glenn Simpson, and left-leaning watchdog group Campaign for Accountability, accusing them of “racketeering” and interfering with his congressional Trump-Russia investigation.

Nunes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee until Democrats won the majority in 2018, claimed that Simpson, Fusion GPS, and the Campaign for Accountability illegally conspired to “harass” him in an attempt to “hinder, delay, prevent, or dissuade” him from looking into issues surrounding the federal investigation into the Trump campaign and the Russian government, and to scare him off from investigating possible wrongdoing by Simpson and Fusion GPS. Joe Biden’s associates still expect Andrew Goldman, who co-founded a natural gas company, to serve as co-host for a fundraiser for the Democratic presidential candidate Thursday evening, despite Biden’s pledge to refuse money from fossil-fuel executives.

As of Thursday afternoon, people close to Biden say Goldman is likely to remain co-host of the event at the New York home of colleague David Solomon, a partner at family-run investment firm Hildred Capital Partners.
