You will be Moved. You will be Entertained. But most of all, you will be Inspired! AMERICAN SPIRIT is a compelling musical and multi-sensory experience that tells the story of a time in America when our leaders and music brought the country together to overcome two of its greatest challenges – the Cold War that threatened to destroy America from beyond its borders, and the Civil Rights struggle, which threatened to tear it apart from within.
- Feel what it was like to be at the Surf Ballroom in 1959 watching Buddy Holly live, just hours before he would die in a plane crash.
- Go back to the historic Apollo Theater in 1963 and watch live as Motown’s biggest stars perform their Motortown Revue.
- Travel to the Copa Room at the Sands Hotel to experience live Frank Sinatra and Count Basie’s “Concert of the Century” in 1966.
- Finally, as you watch live a re-creation of Motown’s 1968 Motortown Revue at the Fox Theater in Detroit, imagine what it must have been like to be there only months after the devastating riot that destroyed much of downtown Detroit.
In between these thrilling live performances, experience the story of the Cold War and Civil Rights struggle, through the words and actions of the leaders of the time, including Presidents Eisenhower, Kennedy and Reagan, as well as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Robert Kennedy.
During the show you will experience pain in seeing so many die so young, joy in hearing over 30 of the greatest American songs performed live, but mostly you will be inspired by these Americans, who by their music, words and leadership made our country a better and safer place for all. The finale to AMERICAN SPIRIT is a moving tribute to the men and women of our Armed Forces, especially to those who paid the ultimate price.
