House Rules Impeachment Hearing Goes Awry After Jamie Raskin Calls Out Doug Collins for Talking Too Fast (Mediaite)

There was a bit of a weird, light-hearted moment in the House Rules Committee when Congressman Jamie Haskin (D-MD) called out House Judiciary Ranking Republican Doug Collins (GA) over his manner of speaking.

Raskin and Collins appeared before the Rules Committee on Tuesday in order to negotiate the terms for how President Donald Trump’s impeachment will proceed through Congress. After the two congressmen gave their statements on the matter, Committee Chairman Jim McGovern (D-MA) noted that Raskin was “scribbling furiously” during Collins’ testimony, so he asked if Raskin had something to say. McConnell sides with Trump ahead of impeachment trial: ‘I’m not an impartial juror’ (Washington Examiner)

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell told reporters he is not impartial in the upcoming Senate trial weighing impeachment articles against President Trump, which he said is a “political process.”

“I’m not impartial about this at all,” McConnell, a Kentucky Republican, said.

Democrats have criticized McConnell for revealing he’ll work closely with Trump’s lawyers in determining how the Senate will weigh two articles of impeachment against him.

U.S. House passes Farm Workforce Modernization Act (Produce Grower)

The U.S. House of Representatives has passed H.R. 5038, the Farm Workforce Modernization Act, with a 260-165 bipartisan vote. The bill now moves to the Senate to be voted on, and if passed there, will require President Trump’s signature to be signed into law.

If signed into law, the act would change the H-2A temporary worker program and establish a “certified agricultural worker (CAW) status,” according to congress.gov. Among other changes, H-2A adjustments would include the creation of a new electronic system for H-2A casework and modify “the method for calculating and making adjustments to the H-2A worker minimum wage.” Certified agricultural workers could apply to be lawful permanent residents of the United States. FISA Judge Blasts FBI For Providing False Information To Wiretap Carter Page (The Daily Caller)

The top judge on the federal court overseeing surveillance activities accused the FBI on Tuesday of providing false and misleading information about Carter Page in applications to wiretap the former Trump campaign adviser.

Judge Rosemary Collyer, the presiding judge on the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISC), issued the stern and unprecedented rebuke in a memo ordering the FBI to come up with a series of proposals by Jan. 10, 2020, on how to ensure the accuracy of future applications for wiretaps.
