Laurel H.S. Student Hospitalized; Classmates Threatened By Strange Behavior

LAUREL, MD (AP) -- Laurel City police say a high school student has been hospitalized for an emergency commitment after classmates felt threatened by his behavior.

Officers say the student alleged he would do harm to others.

Police spokesman Pete Piringer said Tuesday that the student's classmates complained about his disruptive behavior Monday. Piringer said a teacher told a school security officer, who notified police.

Piringer said police contacted the youth's parents, who said he had access to weapons. Police also found some materials that Piringer said lent credibility to the alleged threats.

Police would not say what high school the student attended, or how old the student is.

Piringer said Police Chief Richard McLaughlin said the incident is a prime example of "see something, say something."
