Rightsizing Your Home
Let's face it. Changing homes is probably the most difficult transition anyone goes through. Don't you wish you could just shut your door one day and walk into a new home the next and have everything be right where it should be? Like some kind of hermit crab just picking up a new shell?
Would it be so easy!
Remember what it feels like to put on a pair of shoes that really fit well? When you go to the shoe store to try on a new pair of shoes, you have yourself measured and you know what will fit and what will not. The salesman measures for length and width and if he is really good will observe whether you need extra arch support or heel comfort. Wouldn't it be nice if you could go to a house store and have yourself measured for what kind of house would fit your best?
Maybe the salesman would ask you if you have kids, like to entertain, have an in-law that would live with you. He would ask you the size of your furnishing, how much storage do you need and maybe whether you want a yard. Ultimately, you wouldn't buy a pair of shoes that are too large or too small. They would hurt or cause calluses.
For many of you, you live in a home that is too large and you have developed calluses as a result. There are entire portions of your homes that you no longer live in except in the memories of the past. You heat these spaces, clutter them and ignore them. You don't try to do this, It’s just you can't manage everything the way you used to either cause you don't want to or you can't.
So, today, you have come into my office, for I am the house doctor, here to check your reflexes, check your sight, and see how much you weigh. I am here to prescribe a rightsize pill that when swallowed each day as prescribed will restore your home life to balance and wellness. For most of you, you will slough the calluses by moving, unloading unnecessary possessions, converting items you want to remember into manageable resources to help you recall your past while opening a door to a new season of life whose course is uncharted and exciting to you.
My aim today is to help you make the transition of rightsizing smoother by giving you the tools you need to approach the reallocation of your possessions, while preparing your home for sale to get the highest value. Some of what I will suggest will be new to you and will provoke you to step back and look at your transition in a new light. Ultimately, everyone can rightsize so tune in to find out more information or call Eric directly at 301-963-8000.
