Washington Monument Closed for Elevator Repairs

WASHINGTON (AP) – The National Park Service says the Washington Monument is closed today because its elevator is broken.

Park Service spokesman Mike Litterst says repairs are underway and the monument will reopen when the work is completed. But the repair process is expected to keep the monument closed all day Thursday.

The elevator has had problems in the past as well. In May, some passengers were stranded briefly after the elevator malfunctioned.
