WASHINGTON — (WMAL) The National Air and Space Museum is asking the public to contribute to a conservation fund for Neil Armstrong’s spacesuit.

The suit was worn on the moon 46 years ago but without proper preservation it will deteriorate.

The Smithsonian intends to raise $500,000 on Kickstarter to build a display case that will protect the spacesuit from further damage.

If the project is funded, it will be displayed in the “Desination Moon” gallery at the National Air and Space Museum in 2020.
