GLENMONT — (WMAL) Traffic at the Georgia Avenue and Randolph Road intersection in Glenmont will be reduced to one lane this weekend, according to the Maryland State Highway Administration.

The MSHA is constructing a bridge that will make the current intersection obsolete by putting Georgia Avenue over Randolph Road.

MSHA spokesperson Charlie Gischlar said that the construction and resulting congestion would only last from Friday at 9 p.m. to Monday at 5 a.m., but could end earlier depending on weather conditions.

“It’s going to have a major impact on weekend traffic through that region,” he said. “That’s one of the busier intersections in Montgomery County and for that matter, the whole state of Maryland.”

The bridge project will be completed in 2017, but the lane closures are only in effect this weekend.
