Donald Trump Says U.S. Should ‘possibly’ Accept Refugees

The Republican presidential front-runner met privately with Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus Thursday afternoon, September 3, 2015, and soon after, came out to the lobby of Trump Tower to declare that he has signed a loyalty pledge. This means Trump has promised to support the party's eventual nominee -- whoever that may be.

NEW YORK — (CNN) Republican front-runner Donald Trump said Friday that the European refugee crisis is “so horrible” that he would consider allowing the U.S. to accept some of the displaced refugees.

When asked whether the United States should assist European countries and accept some of the refugees on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Trump said, “We have so many problems, and the answer is, possibly, yes.”

But he added that Europe is “handling it” and that “Germany has been very generous, so far which is very surprising to me, I have to be honest.”

More than 350,000 people have sought asylum in Europe so far in 2015, and the week’s news has been filled with stories of refugees struggling and in some cases dying in the process of trying to reach sanctuary. Germany’s government said last month it expected up to 800,000 asylum seekers to come this year.

Trump has long said that the United States should solve its own problems before intervening in the world and assisting others. He has criticized the Iraq War and U.S. aid to Egypt, and he has slammed China for not taking responsibility in tackling international threats like ISIS.

“We have our own border problems that are big league, that I exposed,” Trump continued. “Our country is broken … We now owe 19 trillion dollars. It’s going to go up very rapidly form this point forward … There’s only so much we can do.”
