7:15am UPDATE – Repair crews have managed to reopen one lane of Connecticut Avenue in each direction as repairs continue at Knowles Avenue

KENSINGTON, MD — (CNN) A dump truck moving with its bed in the “up” position during an overnight paving operation managed to pull down several power lines and snap poles on Connecticut Avenue in Kensington, blocking the artery in both directions at Knowles Avenue.

The accident took place shortly after midnight, and caused enough damage to not only disrupt the paving operations, but to ensure that Connecticut Avenue will remain closed at least through the morning rush hour.

To complicate matters, authorities suspect the downed lines include service for not only Pepco, but Verizon and Comcast as well, so repairs could kleep the road closed well into the morning.

Southbound traffic is being detoured at Knowles Avenue, while northbound drivers are being detorued at Prospect Street.
