Washington’s Union Station Briefly Evacuated

Commuters gather outside Washington, D.C.'s Union Station on Friday, September 11, 2015, following a shooting incident that reportedly began when a suspect stabbed his girlfriend and was then shot by his girlfriend, police said.

WASHINGTON — (CNN) A security guard shot a man who allegedly stabbed his girlfriend in Washington’s Union Station on Friday, D.C. Police Chief Cathy Lanier told CNN.

Both the female stabbing victim and male shooting victim were being treated for their injuries, D.C. Police tweeted later.

The train station was briefly evacuated Friday afternoon following the shooting. But police quickly began allowing people back into the major commuting and retail hub and said there was no active shooting situation.

U.S. Capitol Police warned lawmakers and congressional staff to stay way from Union Station, which is a few blocks from the Capitol.
