UPPER MARLBORO, MD — (WMAL) Gun shows are coming back to Prince George’s County after a two-year moratorium.
The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission, which oversees the Prince George’s County Department of Parks and Recreation, banned gun shows in 2013.
The ban was the result of pending gun control legislation.
After months of negotiations between Appalachian Promotions and the Department of Parks and Recreation, a gun show will return to the Show Place Arena on Saturday in Upper Marlboro.
“It took a long time but we were able to work with them to be able to put a show back together,” said Donna Snyder, a spokesperson for the gun show.
Snyder said the approval was just received on Monday.
There is one restriction for this show: no ammo.
“It’s going to limit the tables that we will be selling to vendors,” said Snyder.
However, Snyder said it is a step in the right direction and she understands the request to ensure safety.
“It is not without consideration that we do this. But gun shows are legal within the state of Maryland and they are legal within Prince George’s County,” said Kira Calm Lewis, spokesperson for M-NCPPC, Department of Parks and Recreation.
Lewis said the ban was lifted because there was no movement on the past legislation and Appalachian Productions was the first organization to seek a request to reinstate shows.
