WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Maryland State Comptroller Peter Franchot has decided to throw his support behind Democratic, presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, and not the former state governor, Martin O’Malley.

Franchot announced his decision in an email sent to his supporters on Monday morning.

He cited Clinton’s experience and her promises to lower the cost of college and invest in biotechnology as a few of the reasons he decided to back her for president.

O’Malley has struggled to gain any traction in the early race against Democrats Clinton and Bernie Sanders in his presidential campaign.

To make matters worse, Franchot is just one of many high-profile Maryland Democrats that have endorsed Hillary Clinton over the former governor.

Hillary’s others Maryland supporters include: Minority Whip Steny Hoyer, Sens. Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin, and Reps. John Delaney and Chris Van Hollen.
