WASHINGTON — (WMAL) It turns out it’s not just Montgomery County that wants to get rid of final exams.

Following the Montgomery County board’s lead, the school board in Anne Arundel has voted to do away with final exams in the county’s schools.

Students in grades 3 – 12 will now receive quarterly assessments, evaluating what they have learned over the course of 9 weeks rather than 18.

This will also change the grading policy for students. The final exams made up 20 percent of students’ final grades, while the quarterly assessments only account for 10 percent of their grades for that quarter.

The average of the two quarter grades determines each student’s final grade. This could mean a lot less stress for high school students when it comes to their final grades.

The change will go into affect next school year.
