WASHINGTON — (WMAL) Three cases of the Zika virus have been confirmed in Washington, D.C., the city’s Department of Health reported Thursday,

“The DC Department of Health (DOH) is working closely with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor and track Zika virus infections in DC residents,” the agency said in an official press release. “It is important for residents to remember that there is no immediate threat to their health and well-being if they have not traveled to the known affected areas.”

The DOH confirmed three cases in D.C., all involving people who were recently abroad. One case, from 2015, involved someone who had recently traveled to South America. The other two, from 2016, were abroad in South America and Central America.

One woman was pregnant in one of the 2016 cases.

“We must all stay well informed and be cautious when traveling internationally,” DOH continued. “DOH has created a webpage that will be regularly updated, with a fact sheet on the Zika Virus and other key information to ensure that all DC residents are engaged and informed.”
