WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A teaching assistant at Judge Sylvania Woods Elementary School in Glenarden was arrested over the weekend on ten felony counts of producing child pornography, sexual abuse of a minor and second degree sexual offense, Prince George’s police spokeswoman Julie Parker announced Monday.

Deonte Carraway, 22, worked at the school for over a year as an assistant and choir teacher.

“We believe that Carraway targeted his young victims and videotaped vile sexual acts between minors during the school day, on school grounds,” said Parker.

The victims range in age from 9 to 13 years old.

According to Parker, on Thursday a victim’s relative discovered a nude photo on the cell phone of a Sylvania Woods student that was sent to Carraway through the Kik Messenger app, which has been subject to scrutiny recently for its role in the murder of 13-year-old Nicole Lovell of Blacksburg, VA.

Police uncovered approximately 40 videos of these young victims performing sexual acts on each other or alone at the direction of Carraway, who has since admitted to the child pornography charges. Police do believe that Carraway also sexually abused some of these victims.

Carraway is being held on $1 million bond.
