ARLINGTON – (WMAL) Warmer weather is catching some businesses off guard. At the ice skating rink at Pentagon Row in Arlington, staff are working to keep the ice frozen.

“Most of the management staff, myself included, we usually check the weather a couple days in advance. And what we will do based on the temperature, is we will change the temperature of our chiller room,” said Adrien Prophete, a manager.

That room runs coolant through a pipe system in order to keep the ice frozen.

Prophete said zero degrees is the coldest temperature that they have run the system at but he says it can go colder.

“Which shows how hard we are pushing our system,” said Prophete.

He said skaters just need to be careful of wet spots on the ice.

The rink is scheduled to stay open through mid-March.

So, Prophete says the staff is going to try to keep the rink open as long as possible.

“The easiest thing to do would be to just give us a call. Usually if anyone answers the phone we are open,” he said.
