(CNN)– Concerned Veterans for America, a veterans advocacy group, held a press conference in central Phoenix last week to mark the second anniversary of the start of the VA wait list scandal and to discuss the future potential for reform within the Department of Veterans Affairs.

CVA’s vice president of political and legislative action, Dan Caldwell, and Matt Dobson, CVA’s Arizona state director, spoke during the press conference with VA whistleblower Brandon Coleman.

Together, the speakers also discussed the ongoing problems at the Phoenix VA and demanded that leaders of both parties of Congress allow votes on critical pieces of VA reform legislation.

Since the start of the scandal in 2013, only three VA managers have been recommended for termination, and one of those people – Phoenix VA Chief of Staff Dr. Darren Deering – was allowed to remain in his very influential position for nearly two years despite clear evidence that he had engaged in misconduct.

Billions of dollars from the federal government have poured into VA coffers in the wake of the scandal, but wait times for appropriate care have only increased, with continued reports of almost daily reportable incidents of alleged misconduct within the agency.
