WASHINGTON (WMAL)– Fairfax County police have arrested two Alexandria preschool employees on charges of assault and battery.

The arrests are the culmination of an investigation that started more than two weeks ago, when a mother reported finding bruises on her four-year-old daughter. Police believe the victim sustained her injuries earlier in the day at James L. & Juliette McNeil Preschool Academy in the Mount Vernon neighborhood of Alexandria.

The suspects are Cherie Evette Diggs of Alexandria and Lisa Campbell of Woodbridge. Diggs worked as an assistant at the preschool, and Campbell was a teacher there. Both have been terminated from their positions at the academy.
