ANNAPOLIS — (WMAL) Living in Maryland is about to become a little less expensive.
Governor Larry Hogan announced a series of fee, tax and tolls reductions Thursday – 155 in all – that he claims will save residents $60 Million over the next five years.
“Reducing and eliminating taxes, tolls and fees not only helps to streamline state government, it has a direct impact on the livelihood of Maryland citizens,” Hogan said. “This is another step our administration is taking to follow through and do exactly what we said we would do.”
The reductions cut across a wide range of state-run entities, from a drop in fees for EZ-Pass transponders to discounts for entry to state parks for military veterans. Ther cost of having documents notarized is being cut, as are fees for many professional business licenses.
Hogan’s latest announcement comes after the General Assembly rejected all but eight of the 34 fee cuts requested by the Governor this past winter. Democratic leaders in the legislature say residents still expect services regardless of of cost, and that ultimately, someone has to pay for the services.
