WASHINGTON — (WMAL) A grand jury decided not to bring charges against Prince George’s County Police officer Taylor Kraus who killed his plain clothes colleague Jacai Colson with friendly fire during a shootout with three men in March.

State’s Attorney Angela Alsobrooks said her office presented the grand jury with an array of possible charges that could be filed against Kraus, including first degree murder, depraved heart murder, involuntary manslaughter and misconduct in office.

“One of the key elements of it would have been recklessness, not merely whether the actions in this case were negligent, but whether or not the actions of this officer in the mind of a reasonable person acting in his position would have been reckless, and that is one of the key aspects that we, uh, the grand jury had to consider and make a decision about,” Alsobrooks said.

While Kraus isn’t being charged, the three brothers who were involved in the shootout face charges including attempted murder.

Michael Ford opened fire outside the police station in an attempt to commit suicide by cop. His brothers Elijah and Malik Ford accompanied Michael so they could film the shootout.

The three are expected to go on trial in October.
