RALEIGH, NC — (WMAL) North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory released a video Monday, in which he conceded the November election to Democrat challenger Roy Cooper, the state’s attorney general.

The concession came days after the state Board of Elections awarded McCrory won a small victory – a limited recount of some 90,000 votes in Durham County, which could have enabled McCrory in theory to close a reported 10,000 vote gap.

The recount fell short, and on Monday, McCrory conceded.

McCrory’s loss comes in a year in which he faced fallout for supporting the state’s controversial “bathroom bill,” which limited civil rights protections for LGBT individuals and regulated the use of public bathrooms.
