WASHINGTON – Safe Track is back. Surge 12 starts Saturday, Feb. 4 and runs through Feb. 28. There will be no Blue Line service weekdays. Since the Blue Line is the only line that goes to Arlington Cemetery, that stop will be completely closed.

If you normally take the Blue Line from Prince George’s County downtown or vice versa, you can get on the Silver Line.

If you need to get downtown from Franconia-Springfield and Van Dorn St. Metro stations or vice versa at rush hour, you can take the expanded Rush Plus service on the Yellow Line. This is probably the least desirable option because those trains will be extra crowded.

If getting to and from work on a packed train doesn’t appeal to you, ridesharing is another option. Commuter Connections, organized by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, connects drivers and people looking for rides, but you need to sign up here http://www.commuterconnections.org/commuters/ridesharing/register-now/. Nuride https://www.nuride.com/ also helps people find commuting buddies. There are also opportunities to meet up with people interested in carpooling at Fairfax County’s Park-and-Ride lots.

If you’re trying to get to and from the Pentagon, the Fairfax Connector’s adding supplemental rush hour express service between the Vienna Metro station and the Pentagon every 20 minutes. Regular Route 599 service will also be running between the Reston Park-and-Ride lot and the Pentagon.

The Director of the Fairfax County Department of Transportation recommends you telecommute if possible or stagger your hours so you don’t have to travel during rush hour.
